You are invited to attend or view a breakfast seminar to discuss issues surrounding the sale of psychoactive substances, so called ‘legal highs’.

It’s one of the issues of the moment and it brings with it a great deal of emotion and heat. This is an attempt to shed some light on the matter of the community use of intoxicating substances and to discuss how we can work together to create communities free from drug related harm.

The event will live stream here:

You will get the opportunity to hear from people working at the coal face in Christchurch, Nelson, Wellington, Whanganui and Hawke’s Bay (including Ngati Kahungunu Iwi) and learn how they are approaching the issue.

Then Mayors from our region (Meng Foon, Gisborne [online]; Bill Dalton, Napier; Lawrence Yule Hastings) will express their views and the challenges they face in implementing the new regulatory framework. We will also have online input from the Associate Minister of Health, Hon Peter Dunne. Officials from the Ministry of Health will also be available online to answer issues that will invariably arise.

The event starts sharp at 8.00am. Venue opens at 7.45am. 9th April, 8.00am lecture theatre one,
Eastern Institute of Technology, Hawke’s Bay, Otatara campus, Taradale.
