CHOP THE LIQUOR SHOP
TE IKA WHENUA HAUORA - MURUPARA
Objective:
To successfully oppose an application to open a new liquor store in Murupara.
What was done: The CAYAD coordinator liaised with the Public Health Officer from the local DHB, the District Licensing Committee (DLC) and her community to advise on the best course of action. The coordinator set up a petition against the store and over 400 signatures were gathered in two days. This was attached to an objection letter to the DLC. A protest march was also organised.
The result: The applicant withdrew the application in the face of the level of opposition from the community.
