mANUREWA COMMUNITY POSITION ON LOCAL APPROVED PRODUCTS POLICY

Auckland Council CAYAD

Objective: To develop healthy controls around where psychoactive substances can be sold in Manurewa and Auckland through informed community engagement in the development of Auckland’s Local Approved Products Policy. A longer term aim was to enhance the community’s capacity to engage in local policy processes.

What was done: The CAYAD coordinator worked with the Manurewa Youth Council (MYC), their reference group and the Auckland Council policy team to engage people in the LAPP consultation process through various awareness raising events.  A youth forum was developed with MYC. Further presentations, information and submission forms were taken to a range of community networks, pop-up events and forums.

Results: CAYAD was able to identify more than 200 LAPP submissions that were received from Manurewa and Clendon through local events and online submissions.
